Date Masamune , Motochika Chosokabe (Sengoku Basara, Samurai Warriors 3) | Cosplay tests
My sister gets an A+ for only taking pictures where I make dumb expressions, so you get my pixel face. (Well I didn’t have my glasses on for Masamune so my eyes were extra squinty…..)
My dad gets an A+ for being my dad.
Anyways, I now know what things need tweaking. (THERE’S LESS THAN A WEEK LEFT I’M GOING TO SCREAM)

Silken Strings | Motochika Chosokabe’s Weapon (Samurai Warriors 3)
yeaaa I’m finally done this thing. Kite string was used for the shamisen strings, so it’s unplayable, a shame. I’m really happy with how it turned out even though I sort of gave up on some parts.
~ three things left for this cosplay. Shoes, wig, chest armour.

Progress: Point, Pegs and Paddle.
Revisiting using the chisel!!! Caused me injuries in highschool, yea.
These pegs were made out of model magic, and took FOREVER to dry. I now have a love hate relationship with that stuff. The pegs are pretty fragile.
By the time I got to make the paddle, I was tired of working on this thing. SIGHS.
Next post is the finished thing.

Hanbei Takenaka (seally) & Motochika Chosokabe (me) cosplay tests | Samurai Warriors 3
Some cosplay progress tests.
Hanbei doesn’t look at all different from the last picture b/c there wasn’t much to do from there. Hat, coat, and pants were painted. Shoulder pieces still haven’t been attached (That’s my sister behind, holding them up). Need to finish the shoes, and then this is done YEA.
For Motochika, the chain belt thing is actually done,but I was too lazy to adjust the thing and put it on (these pictures were taken in a hurry). Shoes, chest armour, and shoulder armor are basically the last things this cosplay needs, as well as styling and dying the wig.
It feels strange to see my new haircut in photos!! Also I feel icky taking photos of myself, but that’s nothing new.

Silken Strings | Motochika Chosokabe (Samurai Warriors 3)
Two (mostly one) days worth of shamisen progress. I’m mostly done now, only a few things left here to do.
I don’t want to cut out and glue individual scales ever again. (My good scissors are currently missing so it was painful . I also don’t want to paint these things ever again ( I only have shitty fraying brushes right now)
First time every using model magic, and it smells weird (according to my sister) and feels weird. Hopefully they’ll come out ok.
The joint between the top piece and the neck of the shamisen is a little fragile, but that’s because of the difference in material (insulation foam vs wood)
The whole front of the body can be taken off/opened. This means that the front piece doesn’t always line up properly, but it also means I can store stuff inside the shamisen (heh).
I’m not really sure what kind of material to use for the strings. The last time I made a shamisen, I used tennis and badminton racket strings, but that requires tension which this prop won’t be able to provide. Maybe kite string?

Cosplay Progress, Motochika Chosokabe (Samurai Warriors 3)
1. Working on leg armor! It’s ridiculous how much time it took to finish painting the thing. Anyhow, I’m basically done the main part of it. I need to make the both piece and add attachments so that they are wearable.
2. Working on the shamisen prop! Originally the plan was to make another real shamisen but then I realized that I don’t have enough time for that. I’m using leftover insulation foam pieces for the body of the shamisen, and wood for the neck. The body is going to need a few layers of paper mache before it looks smooth. The front design of the body is done except for the two dragons…………oh boy.
Hopefully I get a lot done tomorrow.

Three days worth of cosplay progress, part 3/3
Things to do with Motochika Chosokabe (SW), Kiyomasa Kato (SW), and Masamune Date (SB).
1. I finished the fur scarf thing. The sewing machine kept messing up so this to 50x longer than it should have.
2. The foam blade is primed, and the accents have been attached and painted yellow. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it’s even possible to carry the finished product.
3. I made a packaging tape cast of my leg, so to make it easier to make leg armor.
4. Pieces of foam for the leg armor of Motochika Chosokabe and Masamune Date have been cut out, as well as a belt accent for Kiyomasa Kato. There are 4 more pieces of general leg armor to cut out.
Phew, to more days of productivity. (I want to cry)

Three days worth of cosplay progress, part 2/3
Stuff to do with Motochika Chosokabe & Kiyomasa Kato (Both from Samurai Warriors 3) + my current cosplay info organization method.
1. Thigh armor plates done, finally used up 99% of the studs I made. (My sister braided yarn for me)
2. I realized that I made a mistake on the tiger skin piece when I was looking at my reference mateiral again. I didn’t want to dye more fur so I improvised. Luckily that middle part is covered so it’s all ok. I put in a cloth backing so the paint is less likely to rub off on the other pieces of clothing.
3. My new organization method includes swiping a Shugo Chara (?) folder from my sister. Currently I have several calenders in there (detailing when things need to be done), current and past references, and a bunch of post its.

Three days worth of cosplay progress, part 1/3
Stuff to do with Kiyomasa Kato, from Samurai Warriors 3.
Making faux tiger skin, and working on the spear blade.
1. I have a love-hate relationship with dying fur. My favourite part is brushing the fur. It takes FOREVER to dry. One of the pieces really looks like a toilet seat cover. My dad threatened to wear those pieces to work (as usual with all my cosplay stuff)
2. Working on the spear blade………… not really looking forward to making the pole part… I may have to shaft that work off to someone who has better ideas on how to do it.
